Francis Whetstone is a Conservative Party Councillor for Forest Row on East Sussex County Council.[1] Along with his wife Linda Whetstone, he has been associated with the UK branch of the Atlas Economic Research Foundation, the organisation set up by Linda Whetstone's father Antony Fisher.[2]

Biographical Information

History

Whetstone writes the following of himself:

I was elected councillor for Forest Row in 1997, having moved to Sussex in 1969... I have been involved in politics since 1955 when I helped a friend of my father who was standing in the safe Labour seat of Hackney central... The division which I represent is not my community. Given its size, it is not a community and it would be most arrogant of me to consider it to be mine. There is satisfaction in being able to help a resident.[3]

He also notes:

I am a retired former employee of a Lloyds Underwriting Syndicate writing fire insurance in the Room at Lloyds. I keep myself busy by working in the garden and on the farm.[3]

The 27th 'International workshop' of the Atlas Economic Research Foundation was held during the 'blustery "spring" of southeastern England at the Ashdown Park Hotel, childhood home of Atlas founder Sir Antony Fisher[4] Both Francis and Linda Whetstone attended and:

At the conclusion of the program, participants received an unexpected "extra". Linda and Francis Whetstone of Atlas-UK invited all to dinner and explorations at their country home, Bassetts Manor. The visiting cattle ranchers from the US exchanged notes with the Whetstone's on their cattle, horse and hay operations. The rest of the group took in the scenery and fine dining. Many thanks to our generous hosts![5]
