Brussels-based think tank the European Muslim Network is chaired by Tariq Ramadan, a Swiss Muslim academic and theologian.

Ramadan is professor of contemporary Islamic studies at Oxford University. He advocates a reinterpretation of Islamic texts, and emphasizes the heterogeneous nature of Islamic society. He believes that Muslims in Europe have to establish a new "European Islam" and emphasizes the necessity for their engagement in European society.

The think tank was set up in 2005 to bridge the information gap between the European institutions and Muslim communities. [1]

Funding

According to a parliamentary question, the think tank does not receive direct funding from the European Commission. [2]
