Wilsonianism is a term used to describe certain ideological attitudes to foreign policy. The term is named after US President Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924), for his famous fourteen points that he believed could help create world peace if implemented.

Principles of Wilsonian include:

  • Self-determination by ethnic groups
  • The spread of democracy
  • The spread of capitalism
  • US intervention on the global stage with the stated aim of creating peace and/or spreading democracy.
