Ron Silver

Ron Silver (born 2 July 1946) is a US actor who once played the character of Alan Dershowitz in a film. Silver is a supporter of many pro-Israel causes.[1]

Silver, formerly a longtime Democrat, has recently been an outspoken supporter for President George W. Bush, citing the September 11, 2001 attacks as his reasons for switching parties. He spoke at the United States 2004 Republican National Convention and has staunchly continued to support the President.[2]

Ron Silver is one of America's leading TV and stage actors, playing the role of Bruno Gianelli in the critically-acclaimed West Wing series and having also appeared in Chicago Hope. He has starred on Broadway and in film and television, winning a Tony award for his role in Speed the Plow and an Emmy nomination for The Billionaire Boys' Club. He was President of the Actors' Equity Association for nine years (1991-2000) and is also the founder and president of The Creative Coalition, a grassroots political organization of artists with which he is presently a member of the Advisory Board of Directors.
Mr Silver is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a member of the Program Committee of the Wilson Council at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He has also written for the Los Angeles Times and the Wall Street Journal. Mr Silver attended law school and holds a Master's degree in Chinese History.[3]

Commentator

On 8 October 2008, Silver appeared on the BBC's Newsnight with Kirsty Wark to comment on the US elections and politics. Although Silver is a right-wing neocon he appeared alone commenting on US politics.[4]
