Background

Hogan Lovells is the result of a merger in May 2010, between Hogan & Hartson and Lovells.

Hogan & Hartson was started in 1904 by Frank J Hogan in Washington D.C., in 1925, Nelson T Hartson, started working at the firm and in 1938 a partnership was forged, leading to Hogan & Hartson. By April 2010, they had 26 offices in twelve countries on four continents.

Lovells started in 1899, when John Spencer Lovell set up a practice in the UK, Reginald White and Charles King joined and in 1924 it was renamed Lovell, White & King. In 1966 Lovell, White & King merged with Haslewoods, a firm famous for representing Admiral Nelson. In May 1988, Lovell, White & King merged with Durrant Piesse to form Lovell White Durrant and in January 2000 they merged with Asia and German firm Boesenbeck Droste to form Lovells. In December 2000 they merged with Dutch firm Ekelmans den Hollander, Lee & Lee in Singaport in March 2001 and with French firm Siméon & Associés in November 2001.[2]
