Derek Lewis is Chairman of Protocol Associates, a company that sells education and training services. Lewis was appointed Chair of the Drinkaware Trust in January 2008. [1] When Lewis was Director of the prison service his resignation caused serious consequences for his then boss, Michael Howard, who at the time was home secretary. Lewis's report into riots at Whitemoor Prison exposed serious structural failures, for which Howard was subsequently accused of blaming Lewis. In a now famous interview with Jeremy Paxman Howard was asked if Lewis was made a scapegoat 14 times by the Newsnight presenter without receiving an answer. This caused Howard serious embarrasment and provided footage for many 'hilarious' TV clip shows. Later FOI material would confirm Paxman's suspicions.
