Biography

Johnson attended Langley Grammar School in Slough, and then Magdalen College, Oxford. From 1978 to 1981 he was a Resident Student at Peterhouse, Cambridge, [1] then a hub of right-wing thought. From 1983-84 he was director of publications for the Centre for Policy Studies.[2] In 1986 he joined the Daily Telegraph, working as a leader writer and then the papers correspondent in Bonn (1987-89) and Eastern Europe (1989-90). In 1990 he joined The Times as a leader writer (1990-91), later becoming literary editor (1992-96) and then assistant comment editor (1996-98). He has written a column for the New York Sun since 2005.[3] He also contributes to other publications including Commentary, American Spectator, Literary Review, Prospect, and the Wall Street Journal.

In 2008 it was announced that Johnson would edit the Social Affairs Unit's monthly magazine Standpoint, which Johnson said would, "challenge myths such as multiculturalism or political correctness, which [are] stifling comment on anything from the environment to religion."[4]
