Amir Bhatia (Lord Bhatia) is a life peer in the House of Lords. He became a member of the Lords on 09 July 2001, as Baron Bhatia of Hampton in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Ethinic Minority Foundation

In 2013, the BBC reported, Bhatia had been accused by the Ethinc Minority Foundation of misappropriating more than £600,000 of its funds, whilst he was in charge, and using it to fund his own lifestyle. Bhatia's lawyers claimed the charity had misled the BBC and it was in fact the charity who owed him more than £250,000. It was claimed that whilst in charge Bhatia gave himself a contract with wages of about £100,000 per annum, without the approval of the Ethinic Minority Foundation's board.[1]

Bhatia was suspended for eight months from the House of Lords in 2010 for wrongly claiming £27,446 of home-related expenses, which he later repaid.[1]
