The Right Honourable Sir John MacDermott was educated at Campbell College, Belfast and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He was called to the Bar in both England and Wales and in Northern Ireland in 1949. He took Silk in Northern Ireland in 1964. From 1973 to 1987 he served as a Judge of the High Court of Northern Ireland and from 1987 to 1998 he served as a Lord Justice of Appeal in Northern Ireland. He was appointed a Surveillance Commissioner in 1998.[1]
