The independent character of the NOF immediately comes into question upon reading their list of Partner Organisations who include Pharmaceutical companies and slimming food manufacturers. Upon further investigation it is evident that their affiliations and support for certain weight loss products pose conflicts of interest. It is not clear whether the NOF put public health or their financial interests first. As can be seen from the preceding research much of the financial support comes from large corporations who produce these controversial products. But the NOF do support other campaigns such as meals for schools. However it is suggested that the latter only constitutes a small proportion of their activities. Furthermore, the Trustees and members of staff at the NOF are involved with other organisations that produce further conflicts of interest with their aims. The above questions the work of the National Obesity Forum and demonstrates that they are not independent, instead their operation is contingent upon the support of large corporations.
