James McGrory was deputy director of communications for the former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg until 2016.[1] He was promoted to this role in April 2014.

Background

Following a reshuffling of Nick Clegg's special advisers in late August 2010, McGrory was moved from the position of justice and home affairs adviser in Downing Street to replace Lena Pietsch as spokesperson for the Deputy Prime Minister. The changes came amid concerns that the Liberal Democrats have too few ministers and special advisers.[2]

As a special adviser to Clegg, McGrory was paid an annual salary of £66,000. [3]
